Collaborative interaction typically involves justifying and entitling viewpoints, negotiating about them and trying to convince other team members. Negotiation is possible only if there is space for it (Dillenbourg, 1999). Learning task where there is space for misunderstandings and disagreements can create negotiation situations that are important for learning. In these situations participants need to explain and clarify their conceptions and thoughts. Through negotiation participants also create a shared goal and common ground for collaborative work.
